Filter your Cold Brewed Coffee if you're going to drink it later

I made some cold brew coffee out of my stale bag of WBC 2007 Championship beans from Klatch Roasting. I used 8 Bodum scoops (7g each) in my 4 cup French press and filled it with water. Then I left the coffee in room temperature for 12 hours. The next morning, I mixed it with Carnation evaporated milk. It was the best cold coffee I have ever tasted. I have done cold brew coffee with Intelligentsia Black Cat and Vivace Espresso Vita. Those two, especially Black Cat, are exceptional when brewed normally. Cold brewed, they lose much of their original appeal. The WBC blend is different. It is a very non-bitter blend from the start, cold brewing it actually brings out more of the hidden aroma that is very pleasing to the palate. I used evaporated milk because even whole milk does not provide enough body and flavor (but then I'm a lover of Hong Kong-style milk tea).

I poured the leftover unfiltered coffee into a bottle and put it into the fridge. Big mistake. The next morning, I mixed the coffee and milk and drank it. Oh my, it's so bitter! After I think about it, it's obvious what went wrong. The point of the cold brew process is to slow the extraction of unwanted flavors like bitterness. Unfiltered, the fine coffee dust created by my grinder (a Starbucks Barista burr grinder) continued to brew while it's in the fridge. As a result, all the bitterness came out...

Never again. Remember, always make the correct portions or filter your cold brewed coffee.

Double Cheeseburger vs Quarter Pounder with Cheese

My brother and I went to eat at McDonald's. He bought a Quarter Pounder with Cheese for $3.19 whereas I got a Double Cheeseburger for $0.99. Question: is the Quarter Pounder with Cheese really that much better? To answer this question, we consulted the nutrition information on the back of the tray liner.

The Quarter Pounder with Cheese beats the Double Cheeseburger in every single category, but not by much. The Quarter Pounder wins in the amount of Fat, the most important "satisfaction" differentiator, by 13%, but the sodium level is only slightly higher by 3.5%. If you consider the "dissatisfaction" factor of 29% more fiber, it starts to smell like a bad deal. Statistically, there is just not enough to warrant the 3 times price tag. I hereby urge all value-conscious consumers to stay away from the Quarter Pounder with Cheese and switch to Double Cheeseburger from now on :)

A side note: I tried the cappuccino since I had good experience with the coffee last time. I was quite disappointed. The coffee tasted burnt with a bitter aftertaste. Later in the night, I went to Cafe Balcony to get an espresso con panna. My god, can it get any better??? The whipped cream is simply perfect with espresso.
