My brother and I went to eat at McDonald's. He bought a Quarter Pounder with Cheese for $3.19 whereas I got a Double Cheeseburger for $0.99. Question: is the Quarter Pounder with Cheese really that much better? To answer this question, we consulted the nutrition information on the back of the tray liner.
| Sandwich | Calories | Fat | Sat Fat | Trans Fat | Cholest | Sodium | Carb | Fiber | Protein |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Double Cheese | 440 | 23 | 11 | 1.5 | 80 | 1150 | 34 | 7 | 25 |
| Qtr Pdr w Cheese | 510 | 26 | 12 | 1.5 | 90 | 1190 | 40 | 9 | 29 |
The Quarter Pounder with Cheese beats the Double Cheeseburger in every single category, but not by much. The Quarter Pounder wins in the amount of Fat, the most important "satisfaction" differentiator, by 13%, but the sodium level is only slightly higher by 3.5%. If you consider the "dissatisfaction" factor of 29% more fiber, it starts to smell like a bad deal. Statistically, there is just not enough to warrant the 3 times price tag. I hereby urge all value-conscious consumers to stay away from the Quarter Pounder with Cheese and switch to Double Cheeseburger from now on :)A side note: I tried the cappuccino since I had good experience with the coffee last time. I was quite disappointed. The coffee tasted burnt with a bitter aftertaste. Later in the night, I went to Cafe Balcony to get an espresso con panna. My god, can it get any better??? The whipped cream is simply perfect with espresso.
