McDonald's premium roast coffee is not bad

McDonald's made a lot of headlines lately about how it's going to invade Starbucks's market by serving premium coffee and espresso drinks in stores. I have always dismissed McDonald's coffee; after all, it's a fast food burger chain. Recently, however, I started to notice people are saying McDonald's coffee is better than Starbucks (including a Consumer Report test). It just happened that my girlfriend gave me a coupon for a free cup of McDonald's premium roast coffee, so I decided to try it out.

I'm a beginner in gourmet coffee. I have tasted coffee at Caffee Luxxe, Coffee Klatch and Lulu Carpenter's, and found all of them to be out of this world. I still don't quite understand all the subtleties people used to describe good coffee, but I know what's bad coffee. In-N-Out serves bad coffee, really bad coffee. McDonald's coffee is not that. My cup had nice aroma, with a bright first taste that turned to bitterness towards the end. The bitterness was the good kind of bitterness; the more I chewed, the sweeter it became. Overall it's certainly not bad, and I would consider getting it again.
